Genesis 16 and Esther 1
There is a powerful common theme in these two chapters. The common word found in these two chapters is the word despise. Hagar despised Sarai Abram’s wife after Sarai gave her to Abram to have a child that would be Sarai’s child because she was barren and not able to bring forth a child. Hagar assumed that the privilege to have a child through Abram gave her a position of power with Abram which reveals that she was not thankful but had allowed this blessing to be unto her as the source which at the root is a soul state of pride and presumption. Likewise queen Vashti did the same and presumed that king would not do anything against her because she thought he loved her too much to do so. This is the same spirit of pride that entered Lucifer. The genuine fear of God never assumes entitlement but rather recognized the goodness of God as the source in great thankfulness.

Gen 16:4-6 (KJV)
4And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.5And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I have given my maid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: the LORD judge between me and thee.6But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her as it pleaseth thee. And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled from her face.

Esth 1:15-18 (KJV)
15What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?16And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.17For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.18Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king’s princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.
