3 John 1 and 2 Corinthians 2
Def: truth
Basically this means to walk in what is reality is reality and the ultimate source of all that is real. The name for Yahweh implies the source of reality. I AM that I AM.
G225 ἀλήθεια aletheia (al-ay’-thei-a) n.

  1. truth
    [from G227]
KJV: true, X truly, truth, verity
    Root(s): G227
    [?]
    G227 ἀληθής alethes (al-ay-thace’) adj.
  2. true (as not concealing)
[from G1 (as a negative particle) and G2990]
    KJV: true, truly, truth
    Root(s): G1, G2990
    2Cor 2:14-17 (KJV)

primarily, “unconcealed, manifest” (a, negative, letho, “to forget,” = lanthano, “to escape notice”), hence, actual, “true to fact,” is used (a) of persons, “truthful,” Mat 22:16; Mar 12:14; Joh 3:33; Joh 7:18; Joh 8:26; Rom 3:4; 2Co 6:8; (b) of things, “true,” conforming to reality, Joh 4:18, “truly,” lit., “true;” Joh 5:31-32; in the best texts, Joh 6:55 (twice), “indeed;” Joh 8:13-14 (Joh 8:16 in some texts: see No. 2), Joh 8:17; Joh 10:41; Joh 19:35; Joh 21:24; Act 12:9; Phi 4:8; Tit 1:13; 1Pe 5:12; 2Pe 2:22; 1Jo 2:8, 1Jo 2:27; 3Jo 1:12.

akin to No. 1, denotes “true” in the sense of “real, ideal, genuine;” it is used (a) of God, Joh 7:28 (cp. No. 1 in Joh 7:18, above); Joh 17:3; 1Th 1:9; Rev 6:10; these declare that God fulfills the meaning of His Name; He is “very God,” in distinction from all other gods, false gods (alethes, see Joh 3:33 in No. 1, signifies that He is veracious, “true” to His utterances, He cannot lie); (b) of Christ, Joh 1:9; Joh 6:32; Joh 15:1; 1Jo 2:8; 1Jo 5:20 (thrice); Rev 3:7, Rev 3:14; Rev 19:11; His judgment, Joh 8:16 (in the best texts, instead of No. 1); (c) God’s words, Joh 4:37; Rev 19:9; Rev 21:5; Rev 22:6; the last three are equivalent to No. 1; (d) His ways, Rev 15:3; (e) His judgments, Rev 16:7; Rev 19:2; (f) His riches, Luk 16:11; (g) His worshipers, Joh 4:23; (h) their hearts, Heb 10:22; (i) the witness of the Apostle John, Joh 19:35; (j) the spiritual, antitypical tabernacle, Heb 8:2; Heb 9:24, not that the wilderness tabernacle was false, but that it was a weak and earthly copy of the heavenly.

Note: “Alethinos is related to alethes as form to contents or substances; alethes denotes the reality of the thing, alethinos defines the relation of the conception to the thing to which it corresponds = genuine” (Cremer).

primarily “lawfully begotten” (akin to ginomai, “to become”), hence, “true, genuine, sincere,” is used in the Apostle’s exhortation to his “true yoke-fellow” in Phi 4:3. See OWN, SINCERITY.

Note: In the AV of 2Co 1:18; 1Ti 3:1, pistos, “faithful” (RV), is translated “true.”

signifies “to deal faithfully or truly with anyone” (cp. Gen 42:16, Sept., “whether ye deal truly or no”), Eph 4:15, “speaking the truth;” Gal 3:16, “I tell (you) the truth,” where probably the Apostle is referring to the contents of his epistle.

“truth,” is used (a) objectively, signifying “the reality lying at the basis of an appearance; the manifested, veritable essence of a matter” (Cremer), e.g., Rom 9:1; 2Co 11:10; especially of Christian doctrine, e.g., Gal 2:5, where “the truth of the Gospel” denotes the “true” teaching of the Gospel, in contrast to perversions of it; Rom 1:25, where “the truth of God” may be “the truth concerning God” or “God whose existence is a verity;” but in Rom 15:8 “the truth of God” is indicative of His faithfulness in the fulfillment of His promises as exhibited in Christ; the word has an absolute force in Joh 14:6; Joh 17:17; Joh 18:37-38; in Eph 4:21, where the RV, “even as truth is in Jesus,” gives the correct rendering, the meaning is not merely ethical “truth,” but “truth” in all its fullness and scope, as embodied in Him; He was the perfect expression of the truth; this is virtually equivalent to His statement in Joh 14:6; (b) subjectively, “truthfulness,” “truth,” not merely verbal, but sincerity and integrity of character, Joh 8:44; 3Jo 1:3, RV; (c) in phrases, e.g., “in truth” (epi, “on the basis of”), Mar 12:14; Luk 20:21; with en, “in,” 2Co 6:7; Col 1:6; 1Ti 2:7, RV (AV, “in … verity”); 1Jo 3:18; 2Jo 1:1, 2Jo 1:3-4.

Note: In Mat 15:27, AV, nai, “yea” (RV), is translated “truth.”

“truly, surely,” is rendered “of a truth” in Mat 14:33; Mat 26:73; Mar 14:70, R.V, (AV, “surely”); Luk 9:27; Luk 12:44; Luk 21:3; Joh 6:14; Joh 7:40; Joh 17:8, RV, “of a truth” (AV, “surely”); Act 12:11, RV (AV, “of a surety”); “in truth,” 1Th 2:13; “truly,” Mat 27:54; Mar 15:39. See INDEED, No. 3.

“sincerely, honorably” (akin to A, No. 3), is rendered “truly” (marg., “genuinely”) in Phi 2:20 (AV, “naturally”).

Notes: (1) The particles ara, men, and de are sometimes rendered “truly” in the AV, but are differently rendered in the RV. (2) In 1Co 14:25, AV, ontos (RV, “indeed”) is rendered “of a truth.” See CERTAIN, C, No. 1, INDEED, No. 4. (3) In Joh 20:30, AV, the particle oun, therefore (RV), is rendered “truly.”

14Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.15For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:16To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?17For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
3John 1:1-9 (KJV)
1The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.3For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.5Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;6Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:7Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.8We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.9I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

Colossians 3 and 2 Thessalonians 3
Col 3:1-7 (KJV)
1If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.2Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.3For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.4When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:6For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:7In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

2Thess 3:1-5 (KJV)
1Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:2And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.3But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.4And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.5And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

1 Chronicles 10 and 2 Thessalonians 2 plus Zephaniah 1 and 3
In both of these chapters there is abomination in a temple that is mentioned. There is also the description of people putting their identity and loyalty is someone that is two highly looked up to instead of God.
1Chr 10:10-14 (KJV)
10And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.11And when all Jabeshgilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,12They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.13So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to enquire of it;14And enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
2Thess 2:2-17 (KJV)
2That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.3Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;4Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.5Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?6And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.7For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.8And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:9Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,10And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:12That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.13But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:14Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.15Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.16Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,17Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

Zeph 1:6-8 (KJV)
6And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him.7Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice, he hath bid his guests.8And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes, and the king’s children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

Zeph 3:11-15 (KJV)
11In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.12I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.13The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.14Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.15The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

Jude 1 and Joel 3
These two chapters describe the judgment of the wicked in the last days and also that the wickedness would be very mature and great.
Jude 1:14-25 (KJV)
14And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,15To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.16These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.17But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;18How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.19These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.20But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,21Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.22And of some have compassion, making a difference:23And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.24Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,25To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Joel 3:11-21 (KJV)
11Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD.12Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about.13Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.14Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.15The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.16The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.17So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.18And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth of the house of the LORD, and shall water the valley of Shittim.19Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence against the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.20But Judah shall dwell for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.21For I will cleanse their blood that I have not cleansed: for the LORD dwelleth in Zion.

1 Thessalonians 1 and 2 Corinthians 6
The common theme in these two chapters is rightly receivng the grace of God so that it is not received in vain. Paul could say of the Thessalonians that he knew their election of God because they had fully received the grace of God with a life that fully turned from idols and the love of the world so that their lives by example were causing many to be saved. Paul and his co workers were filled with unrestrained emotions of fervent love to the Corinthians but their emotions were restrained toward Paul because they were shown to be in compromise with the world. Thus they are exhorted to come out of the world and live a life of in holiness.
1Thess 1:2-7 (KJV)
2We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers;3Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;4Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.5For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.6And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:7So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
1Thess 1:8-10 (KJV)
8For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.9For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;10And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
2Cor 6:1-2 (KJV)
1We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.2(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
2Cor 6:11-18 (KJV)
11O ye Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.12Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own bowels.13Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?15And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?16And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.17Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
