March 16, 2026 Monday
Psalms 7 and Psalms 23
We can face our enemies more powerful than us without fear and in total trust that God will deliver us if we walk with uprightness before God always trusting God and seeking to please God in all we do.
Ps 7:1-17 (KJV)
1Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:2Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.3O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;4If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)5Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Ps 23:1-6 (KJV)
1A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
1Cor 7:36-39 (KJV)
36But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.37Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power over his own will, and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin, doeth well.38So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well; but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better.39The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

Daniel 1 and Jeremiah 35
In both of these chapters a small group of God’s people chose to abstain from wine and other things of general comfort and pleasure in order to be fully pleasing onto God. The result was God’s blessing on their lives which was a great example and testimony to the people of God they lived among and also the heathen they lived among. They chose to pay the price of a more narrow walk before God.
Dan 1:9-21 (KJV)
9Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.10And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.11Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,12Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.13Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.14So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.15And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.16Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.17As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.18Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.19And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.20And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.21And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
Jer 35:5-11 (KJV)
5And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.6But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:7Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.8Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;9Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:10But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.11But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem.

13Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD.14The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.15I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.16Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:17Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.18And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you:19Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.

1 Chronicles 14 and Psalms 146 plus Ezekiel 13
King David never did battle without inquiring of God and always could hear God give him an answer when inquiring before God. He did not put his trust in gifted or wise people for direction. The false prophets could not hear from God because their trust was in the temporal vanities of this world.
1Chr 14:1-17 (KJV)
1Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him an house.2And David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel, for his kingdom was lifted up on high, because of his people Israel.3And David took more wives at Jerusalem: and David begat more sons and daughters.4Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,5And Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,6And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,7And Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphalet.8And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to seek David. 1Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.2While I live will I praise the LORD: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.3Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.4His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.5Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:6Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:7Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. Ezek 13:3-10 (KJV)

Psalms 55 and 1 Chronicles 13
Both of these chapters are about the genuine fear of God. In Psalms 55 the wicked persecute King David because they do not fear God and that is because they have no changes but are in a rut of mere ritualistic practice without the reality of God’s presence. In 1 Chronicles 13 God judges Uzza for putting forth his hand to stabilize the ark which should not have been put on a cart but carried according to the law with great reverence. When we have the genuine fear of God God’s presence shields us from the persecution of the wicked who have lost the fear of God.
Ps 55:1-23 (KJV)

Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not thyself from my supplication.2Attend unto me, and hear me: I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;3Because of the voice of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked: for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.4My heart is sore pained within me: and the terrors of death are fallen upon me.5Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.6And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.7Lo, then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness. 10And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.11And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perezuzza to this day.12And David was afraid of God that day, saying, How shall I bring the ark of God home to me?13So David brought not the ark home to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.14And the ark of God remained with the family of Obededom in his house three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obededom, and all that he had.

Ezekiel 31 and 1 Kings 22
In both of these chapters there is described the fall of a wicked king and his nation. In Ezekiel 31 it is Pharaoh of Egypt who falls because he is lifted up in pride and his nation. In 1 Kings 22 it is king Ahab of Israel
Ezek 31:16-18 (KJV)
16I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be comforted in the nether parts of the earth.17They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.18To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.
1Kgs 22:33-40 (KJV)
33And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.34And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.35And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.36And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.37So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.38And one washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according unto the word of the LORD which he spake.39Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?40So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.
